You can also go hunting or fishing from Githio. Moreover you can visit Mani from there with its famous towers and the isle of Kithira since there are ferries that leave from the harbor. Archagelos is a fisherman's village of great beauty with a peaceful harbor and clean waters. It is an ideal place for carefree holidays all year round, for swimming, water sports and fishing. Arriving at Mystras is like entering the Byzantine era. Going up the hill you will see the gate that is the entrance to the castles. It was built in 1249. The greatest monument you will meet is the temple of Agios Dimitrios, which was the first that was built there.
Areopoli and Itilo are two of the important areas of Mani. Areopoli is 72 km. away from Sparta and one of the most beautiful towns you can find in Greece. It grew to become a major commerce centre in the whole of Mani. There are public services, schools, banks and other activities that make Areopolis influential beyond its limits.
Itilo has been populated continuously from Homeric times to this day. There are remnants of ancient temples especially around the coast. Other monuments are the temple of Agios Georgios and others. Also in Mani are the caves of Diros . Visitors leave dumbfounds by the beauty of the colors and the shapes.
Elafonissos is a beautiful island with a history that goes back before the Neolithic period (6000 – 3500 B.C.)
